  • Benjamin Franklin was a printer from his teen years until he retired at age forty-two. 
  • He moved to Philadelphia and started publishing Poor Richard's Almanack, from 1732 to 1757, which was one of Franklin's most popular and enduring contributions. 
  • Franklin's writings in the Alamanack allowed others to view him as a talented writer. Franklin was sure to include moral messages in his readings while also entertaining his readers. 
  • At the age of forty-two Benjamin Franklin retired from his printing career and became devoted to science.
  • In Franklin's lifetime he was known for inventing multiple things including: lightening rod, bifocals, and new types of stoves. He also contributed to the scientific understanding of earthquakes and ocean currents. 
  • Of all the things that Benjamin Franklin did, he is most remember for his career in politics by playing a important part in drafting the Declaration on Independence, enlisting the French support during the Revolutionary War, negotiating peace treaty with Britain, and drafting the US Constitution. 
  • Franklin was the ambassador of England and later France. 
  • Benjamin Franklin wrote the first section of The Autobiography in 1771 but never finished before his death.
